"The reaction of listeners was very positive, they mentioned your unique voice and melodism. Thank you again for your brilliant CD and songs you sing."
—Remigijus Leipus
Lithuanian Radio-1 programme (LR-1)

About:
While the City Sleeps...

Yes, this album is different from the standard jazz fare available today. I made this kind of record for a very simple reason.

There's been a sound going through my head for years that I just wasn't hearing anywhere else but "in there." It's a sound that's fat and sexy and emotional and male and tender and raucous. At the same time, it's rooted in the musical traditions of jazz, rhythm & blues, and the American Songbook. I trust in the fact that there are other jazz / r&b fans out there who need to have that direct channel to the emotions that music like this offers us.

I have tried to avoid the easy "Songs That Have Night in the Title" approach. Much goes on during the night that many people do not get to experience. Nighttime in the city encompasses joy, heartache, music, possibility, laughter, romance, art, anger, loss, camaraderie, rejection, sex, beauty, renewal—life.

The songs on While the City Sleeps... such as the title tune, or "Since I Met You Baby," "How to Handle a Woman," "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" "Sea Cruise," "It's Just a Matter of Time," "You Don't Know Me" and "Tenderly"—among others—seek to reflect these shifting emotional tides.

I deeply thank the artists who honored me by joining me on this project—Randy Sandke (trumpet), Les Kurtz (piano), Bob Kindred (tenor sax), Dave Hofstra (bass), Tom Melito (drums) and Michael Brorby (engineer). Their talent helped me capture the sound that I'd always heard. You'll be delighted by the brilliant conversations and interplay among these gentlemen throughout these songs. As well as by solos that both sear and soar.

What you'll hear on this album is, in fact, what I've been hearing by myself for all these years. It's a thrill and an honor, finally, to be able to share this musical feast with you.

Enjoy!
